These are excellent planning tools available to structure gifts that help you and/or your designee and the VNA.Gifts of Stock: These can provide tax benefits to the donor and help a charitable organization. Please notify the VNA if you plan to make this type of gift, and our staff will provide delivery instructions and an acknowledgement letter for tax purposes.Bequests: A bequest is a part of a will that allows people to make a donation to a non-profit agency through their will. The gift may be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of an estate or an asset such as stocks and bonds. In cases where a will does not exist, the government distributes personal property according to state laws.An accountant, lawyer or financial advisor can help you through the will and bequest planning process, making sure your beneficiaries and favorite charities receive the highest percentage possible of your estate to help minimize the amount given to taxes. Most financial and estate planning experts recommend that you review your will every three years or whenever a major life event occurs, such as a marriage or the birth of a child. Changes can be made easily with a codicil or addition to your will. Please click here to read about Guidelines for Making a Bequest.Life Insurance: You may consider donating an insurance policy with a cash surrender value that you no longer require for its original purpose. You may also name VNA Foundation as the beneficiary for your employer-provided group life insurance policy.
Guidelines for Making a Bequest:After meeting personal and family obligations in your will, consider making a gift to the VNA home care, hospice or community health program. Follow these steps for making a gift in your will:•Contact your attorney about establishing or amending a will to include a bequest.•Designate the Visiting Nurse Foundation as the recipient.•Note whether the gift is unrestricted or marked for a specific VNA program or service area. For example, you may indicate that you want the bequest to be used for hospice care for the terminally ill. Unrestricted gifts will be used wherever needed most.•Indicate the amount or percentage of the gift and list any specific property. If you desire, notify the VNA of the bequest so we may recognize your generosity and plan accordingly.Click here to go back to the main page.
