Childbirth education classes and certified lactation consultant services are also available. Together, with the team’s support the individual/family develops a family service plan to meet identified health and parenting goals. The Growing Great Kids curriculum is utilized during visits. It is a highly interactive and a strengths-based approach to building nurturing parent-child relationships and promoting parenting skills that support the early learning and development of infants and young children. Childbirth Education ClassesThe VNA offers free childbirth education classes for expectant mothers to help prepare them for pregnancy and childbirth. The classes take a healthy approach and cover nutrition, exercise, use of medications during pregnancy, sexually transmitted disease (STD) education, coping techniques, physical and emotional changes and the warning signs of pre-term labor and pregnancy-induced hypertension. The VNA provides classes in both English and Spanish. Participation in the program is at no cost to expectant mothers. Women are encouraged to sign up early due to high demand.ReturnNewborn/Postpartum CareThe VNA understands that having a new baby can be overwhelming, which is why we offer newborn and postpartum care assistance for families with newborns. This program is designed to provide new moms and their families with the latest information on newborn care, parenting skills and breastfeeding techniques in the comfort of their own homes. The newborn and postpartum care service is offered to all members of the community.ReturnLactation/Breastfeeding ServicesThe VNA Lactation Program is the only breastfeeding education service in the community that allows clients to learn in the comfort of their own homes. Certified lactation consultants assess client status, provide support and education to new mothers and involve other family members in the process. Instruction is given based on the latest research in breastfeeding.ReturnProject WINWelcoming Infants into Neighborhoods, or Project WIN, is a program designed to provide home visits to families who are expecting or have a baby 12 months of age or younger. The home visits, which are made by a public health nurse, focus on providing health education and support to young families - assisting them with identifying needs and accessing health care, education and social service resources. Project WIN is a free community service.ReturnLove and LearnLove and Learn is a home visitation program designed especially for pregnant and parenting teens 21 years and younger. The services of a public health nurse, social worker and parent coach are available to work with the teen in meeting their identified goals, related to health, parenting, school, and employment issues. Participants have the opportunity to attend monthly socialization events offered to increase the teen’s social support system.ReturnSocial WorkSocial work staff provides assistance with housing, food, health care referral and follow up and accessing community resources. Promoting positive parenting and advocacy for health, socioeconomic and psychosocial needs are critical social work roles. VNA parent coaches provide home-based education and support services focused on parenting and life skills to overcome barriers that have prevented the family from reaching their goals.
