President & CEO

James C. (Jamie) Summerfelt is the President and CEO of Visiting Nurse Association (VNA), a leading provider of community and home health care services to the residents of Omaha and Council Bluffs. Jamie's vision for VNA is to be the overwhelming choice for health care services wherever our clients call home and whatever their ability is to pay.

With nearly 28 years of leadership experience in the home health care industry, Jamie joined VNA as President and CEO in June 2004.   Since that time, he has been recognized for VNA's successes in areas from telehealth care to staff recruitment and retention from both local and national organizations. Under Jamie’s leadership, VNA has also received industry leading reviews from its customers with a 98% recommendation rate from satisfied clients and readmission rates to hospitals that fall well below state and national averages. Since that time, VNA has undergone Board restructuring, a merger of Omaha and Council Bluffs VNA and the creation of Companion Care, a service that leverages VNA’s tradition of in-home care to deliver personal care services for older adults and help them stay safely in their homes.

Prior to VNA, Jamie worked for Saint Mary's Medical Center in Reno, Nevada as Vice President of Professional and Support Services including home care and hospice. Jamie received his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Northwestern University where he also played Big Ten football. He received a Master of Science in Physical Therapy and Master of Arts in Education from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Moving back to Chicago, he established his own physical therapy business that he eventually merged with a national healthcare provider and proceeded to establish home care businesses in nine different states. Jamie's passion for home health care brought him to Omaha. VNA offers him the opportunity to lead a community benefit, mission-driven, community-based health care organization in Omaha and Council Bluffs that has a 115-year tradition of deliving quality, trusted health care services.

Jamie is a Member of the Board of Directors and Board Chair for Visiting Nurse Associations of America (VNAA). He is Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for Hospice House - The Josie Harper Residence, and Live Well Omaha. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Hospice of Southwest Iowa the Nonprofit Association of the Midlands, and Partnerships in Aging. Jamie is a member of the United Way of the Midlands Vision Council, West Omaha Rotary, and American Physical Therapy Association.

Jamie and his wife, Maggie, have three children.

Chief Operating Officer

Bridget Young is Chief Opertating Officer for the Visiting Nurse Association. She is a member of the leadership team with more than 35 years of home care experience. Bridget is responsible for establishing, developing and supporting an integrated clinical infrastructure for agency operations including accreditation, regulatory and quality initiatives.

Bridget has held a variety of direct care and management positions at VNA, including Vice President of Home Care, Vice President of Business Services, and Vice President of Quality and Accreditation. She assumed the role of Vice President of Operations in 2009.

Bridget received her BSN from Creighton University in 1975 and earned an MBA from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1995. In 2006, Visiting Nurse Associations of America (VNAA) named Bridget the recipient of its annual home care award, Administrative Manager of the Year.

CFO and Vice President of Finance

Dave Vanlandingham joined VNA’s Leadership Team as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Finance in August 2009 and quickly learned the many intricacies of the world of finance for nonprofits and Medicare reimbursement.

Dave has been successful in reducing VNA’s debt, improving turnaround time in billing, establishing sound financial practices and improving the overall financial health of the agency. Dave graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha with a degree in Business Administration (Accounting) Magna Cum Laude and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Prior to joining VNA, Dave was Director of Payment Operations for PayPal Inc., and CFO for Rigel Corporation.

Vice President of Home Care

Bridget Caniglia is the Vice President of Home Care for VNA. With more than 15 years of nursing experience in rehabilitation, skilled nursing and acute care settings, she joined VNA and assumed this role in 2005.

Bridget is responsible for the overall operations and delivery of clinical services provided by our home care team. Home Health Care has a priority focus of assisting clients in remaining safe and independent in their own home through a multidisciplinary team approach, individualized specialty care and case management. Bridget received her BSN from Nebraska Methodist College of Nursing in 1993. In addition, she became a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse in 1998.

Vice President of Hospice, Palliative Care and Pharmacy

Joanie Kush is the Vice President of Hospice and Pharmacy, and has been a member of the Hospice Team in various direct care and management roles since 1983. She assumed the role of Vice President in 2000.

Joanie is responsible for overall operations of the VNA Medicare Certified Hospice program and IV Therapy. She has also functioned as a consultant assisting two home care agencies with the start-up of a Medicare Certified Hospice program. Joanie received her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing in 1982 and her master's degree in Nursing Administration in 1997, both from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She received certification as a Hospice Administrator in 2005. The certification program focuses on strategic management principles, quality management and outcomes based hospice service delivery, hospice financial management and compliance and legal issues in hospice. Joanie is on the Board of Directors for Hospice House - the Josie Harper Residence, which is a licensed inpatient hospice facility. In addition, she currently serves as the President of the Nebraska Hospice and Palliative Care Association.

Vice President of Development

Caryn Hohnholt is Vice President of Development. Prior to her role as VP of Development, Caryn was VNA's Community (Government) Relations and Grant Coordinator. Caryn has more than 15 years of fundraising experience, holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska and is a Certified Social Worker and Certified Fundraising Executive.

As Vice President of Development, Caryn leads the Fund Development Team, including grants and community relations, fundraising through special events, major gifts, annual campaigns, endowment, capital campaigns and planned giving.

Vice President of Health Services

Kris Stapp is Vice President of Health Services, and since 1986, has served VNA in a variety of staff and management positions, beginning as school nurse, followed by Clinical Manager and Director of Community/Public Health Services. Kris is an R.N., with a bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska College of Nursing. Kris stays active within the community with involvement in the Nebraska School Nurses Association, Metro Omaha Immunization Task Force and Baby Blossoms Collaborative.

As VP of Health Services, Kris is responsible for delivering public health services throughout VNA, as well as representing VNA in professional and community organizations and committees, and acting as VNA spokesperson on issues affecting public health.
